Nevada Weddings

Nevada weddings are more popular than ever. Originally, their popularity was based solely on the fact that Nevada had no waiting period for obtaining a marriage license. Since neighboring California had imposed a three day waiting period in the 1920s, people began flocking to Nevada for their spur-of-the-moment weddings.

This popularity has not died down. Between the years 2000 and 2003, over 485,000 people got married in Nevada--and those statistics are only for the city of Las Vegas! It's hard to imagine but true: in the year 2000, 122,902 people were granted marriage licenses in Las Vegas. The following year was even more popular, with 123,149 licenses issued!

Most Popular Days for Nevada Weddings

As you would expect, the number one most popular day for Nevada weddings is Valentine's Day. In fact, in 1998 the Clark County Marriage License Bureau (which serves all of metropolitan Las Vegas) reported that 2,590 marriage licenses were issued during the Valentine's Day weekend. This broke the record as the single most popular weekend to get married in the history of Las Vegas.

Surprisingly, the second most popular day for Nevada weddings is New Year's Eve. Apparently lots of people want to send the year out with a bang--and an "I do." Interestingly enough, other popular days for Nevada weddings fall on dates with consistent numbers, such as: 1/01/01, 2/02/02, 3/03/03, and 04/04/04. So if you want to get married on May 5, 2005, you'd better plan ahead and book now!
