Unique Wedding Cakes

Unique wedding cakes are a delight. Frankly, I get tired of the same boring old wedding cakes I see so often. Yes, a three-tiered white cake topped with icing flowers is pretty, but it's also very dull. I attend a wedding because I care about the bride, the groom or both. These are people I love. I want their wedding cake to really say something about them! I want their wonderful personalities to be revealed!

Unique Wedding Cakes, Inside and Out

What makes a wedding cake unique? First, let's talk about the flavor and the texture. Go ahead and try something a little unusual. A ribbon of raspberry can help bring a vanilla cake to life, for instance. Or you may want to take advantage of those traditional tiers by making each tier a different flavor. A friend of mine had a three-tiered cake at her wedding, featuring a tier of white chocolate, a tier of vanilla, and a tier of carrot cake. I thought that was so much fun!

Next, let's think about the exterior of the cake. Edible blossoms are fun and colorful. I love how playful they are. Unfortunately, most people really don't like the taste of edible violets when you get right down to it, and choosing unique cake toppers that you eat leaves you with nothing as a keepsake.

I like unique wedding cakes that make the most of that old-fashioned accessory, the wedding cake topper. Remember that little bride and groom that folks planted on their cakes in the 1950s? Well, they've been updated. Unique wedding cakes now come with fabulous toppers like spun glass castles, gothic crows, dancing butterflies or soaring dolphins.
