Looking for wedding budget tips? You've come to the right place. You're probably surfing the Internet because you just discovered that your potential wedding costs are quickly skyrocketing out of your budget range. You're not alone. These days, the average American family spends over $20,000 on a wedding. That's a lot of money, and it's understandable that not everyone can keep up.

I asked a few friends what their best wedding budget tips would be, and I got some interesting answers. One pointed out that it's crucial to keep individual costs at a minimum. In other words, don't spend the most possible on flowers, invitations, etc. Make things yourself. Get help from friends. Don't always follow the rule that bigger is better. You'll save a lot of money in the process.

The bulk of what you spend on your wedding usually relates to what you're spending on each guest. If you can't afford a $20,000 wedding, then you can't afford to pay for everything for every single guest. Consider having a meal prepared by family and friends, instead of paying for a caterer. If your wedding is taking place in another city, tell your family and friends (nicely) that they are responsible for their own travel and lodging costs.

Most of all, consider reducing the size of your wedding. Of course you want everyone to be there, but you can't necessarily afford to spend a few hundred dollars each on a few hundred guests. Keep the wedding day for your close family and friends, then throw a party the next day where everyone is invited. Better yet, get one of your friends to throw the party!
