Wedding Invitation IdeasWritten by Norene Anderson The wedding invitation is a window into the atmosphere of the wedding. This is the first hint of what is in store for the guests. The type of invitation you choose will indicate whether the wedding is formal, casual, or playful and low-key. It should clearly define the times, attire, locations, and activities for this special occasion. Before looking at the styles of invitations, the guest list should be made. In order to avoid leaving anyone out, divide the guests into categories. This should include the bride's friends, bride's family and their friends, groom's friends, groom's family and their friends, and any other category desired. When the lists have been completed, it is a good idea to add 25 to 50 extra invitations so you'll have plenty in case you've forgotten anyone or have last-minute additions. Personalize Your Wedding InvitationsThousands of wedding invitation designs are available to consider. The patterns and font types will vary from traditional to contemporary. There are, however, two basic printing types. Thermography is available in a wide range of colors to match the colors chosen for the wedding. The other printing type is engraving. This is a more traditional and formal style of invitations. The process involves etching print into heavy cotton paper and costs quite a bit more than thermography. The wording on the wedding invitation is totally up to the couple. With the divorce rate being high, many couples are in a quandary about whether to include the names of natural parents, step-parents, neither, or both. The traditional format is being used much less frequently these days as more couples are entering marriage at a later age. Many prefer to leave the names of their parents off altogether. Other things to consider in sending invitations include response cards for the reception and personalized thank-you notes with your married name. The response cards will give the caterer a good idea of the number to prepare for at the reception. To ensure a more accurate response, always include a stamped self-addressed envelope.
