Today's Wedding Invitation RSVP Etiquette

Okay, so you have received an invitation to a wedding. What do you do next? Hopefully, the couple has given you enough time and enough information to know how and when to respond. There are, however, some things you should know about wedding invitation etiquette.

First of all, only the people whose names are on the envelope are actually invited. Some couples are happy to have children at their wedding while others would prefer to have the full attention of their guests. If your children are invited, the invitation will include your name and the words, "and family" or the names of your children.

When and How Should I Respond?

Most couples either provide a separate RSVP card and inside envelope, or they provide other instructions. For example, many couples are now using Internet options when it comes to guest management. That means you may be asked to call a toll-free number where you can leave your response. You might even be asked to respond online at a wedding website.

The main issue is to respond as quickly as possible. If you have to wait for any reason, you may call the bride or groom to explain why and to give them the date by which you will be able to make plans. It is imperative that you respond whether you plan to attend or not. Wedding dinners cost money, and not knowing for certain who will be there can add up to a "donation" to the caterer. Once you commit to attending, you will be expected. Nothing short of a serious illness or disaster should keep you from going to the wedding. The couple will really appreciate your efforts to use the appropriate wedding invitation RSVP etiquette

RSVP

We received a wedding invitation with the RSVP card already stating the number of guest attending, 3. But there are 4 people in our household, 2 parents 2 children. How do we address this with the host? Does it mean they excluded one of our children (ages 13 & 10)? The invitation does not say no children allowed.
