Wedding Vocalists

Wedding vocalists are a dynamic part of the wedding team. Many brides choose close acquaintances or family members to sing at their wedding. Others choose professional vocalists or those for hire with wedding musicians. Regardless of the singers chosen, there are some simple guidelines to follow.

The first thing you should do is choose the songs for the wedding. Most brides have favorite songs that speak to the commitment they are making. Many of these are well-known songs that are adaptable to the wedding scene. Some prefer to have traditional wedding songs included in the repertoire for the ceremony. The number of songs performed is entirely up to the bride and groom.

Choosing Wedding Vocalists with the Right Sound

Once the songs are chosen, consider the vocal range required to make the song comfortable to sing. Songs are generally written with a specific voice type in mind. If the song you like is sung by a tenor, don't expect it to sound the same if the singer you choose is a baritone. That doesn't mean that it cannot be adapted to any vocal range, but it does mean it will have a different sound.

If you have someone that you specifically want to be your wedding vocalist, discuss your choice of songs with him or her and let them suggest which ones might best fit their vocal range. Of course, if you are using a professional wedding service, they should be able to provide singers with the voice range for any song of your choosing.
