Lds Missionary DiscussionWritten by Beth Hrusch LDS missionary discussion is actually a series of six Discussions that are part of missionary training in the Mormon Church. When an LDS member decides to go on a mission, he or she is required to go through sessions in which they are taught, among other things, the methods by which they will share their faith with others. The Discussions are part of the method that missionaries use to enter into a conversation with those who they are visiting. The Content of LDS Missionary DiscussionsThe six Discussions each have subcategories called principles. When having a faith conversation with others, a Mormon mission worker will go through the Discussions in order, for the purpose of explaining the position of the Mormon Church in matters of theology. Discussion One used to focus on the prophets but now, due to the increasing atheism in the world, has been changed to focus on the argument for a basic belief in God. Discussion Two covers the Gospel of Jesus Christ and the belief in salvation. At this point, a missionary must assess whether the person is ready to accept the Mormon faith as the true Christian faith in the world. This is important because Discussion Three moves on to the apostasy of the other Christian faiths. Discussions Four and Five go over some of the mandates of the Mormon Church in regards to personal salvation. Purity of body, tithing, and fasting are mentioned here. Finally, Discussion Six focuses on the mission of the Church in the world. This is a brief overview of the LDS missionary discussion method. It is the official Church outline for mission workers seeking to not only spread the Gospel but to gauge a listener's readiness for the Gospel according to Mormon. Conversion to Mormonism is not always the end result of the LDS missionary discussion, but for those ready to accept the Mormon belief system, it is an introduction to the basic concepts of LDS theology. Having a thorough knowledge of Mormon scripture is essential to the goal.
