Lds ScripturesWritten by Beth Hrusch LDS Scriptures are the definitive body of work that make up the Mormon belief system. Four works are considered Scripture by LDS members. They include the King James Bible, the Book of Mormon, Doctrines and Covenants, and the Pearl of Great Price. These works cover the history of the Mormon Church, its relation to Bible history, the specific mandates of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and documents produced by Joseph Smith, such as the Articles of Faith. LDS Scriptures Define the FaithKnowledge of Scripture is considered an essential part of the training of LDS members. For those in seminary classes and anyone teaching these works, there are online resources available to make the learning process easier, such as Scripture memorization and study programs and aids. When taken as a whole, these works define different aspects of the faith as they relate to each other. Therefore, a holistic approach is favored when studying these works. Knowing how the Book of Mormon complements the Holy Bible, for example, gives one a better understanding of the LDS belief system. Likewise, a study of the works of Joseph Smith will explain the evolution of the Mormon religion from its inception. Smith's doctrines and Articles of Faith reveal much about his vision for the Church, not only as a whole but in relation to each of its members. His works outline the basic beliefs of LDS members. In a similar way, the Doctrines and Covenants contains many of the policies of the Church relating to marriage, polygamy and the priesthood. By becoming familiar with the works that contain LDS Scriptures, one can better understand the Mormon position on social issues and matters of faith. By seeing how the Book of Mormon relates to the Holy Bible, those both in and outside the faith can put Mormonism in perspective. These are the defining books for the Latter-day Saints, the foundations of all that is held sacred to them. All LDS Scriptures are available for study online.
