LDS Young Women is a program of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints designed specifically for young girls between the ages of 12 and 18. It involves getting girls together for the purpose of teaching the values of their faith. This is done through participation in activities and discussions aimed primarily at addressing the concerns of girls in this age group. The importance of relationships with friends and family, good morals and responsibility to the Church are important themes.

LDS Young Women Shapes the Future

Young Women follows the dictates of the Mormon document "For Strength of Youth." This lists 20 standards for the behavior and values of young people. Everything from dress and appearance to sexual purity is covered in this work. A Young Women program strives to teach these values in a group setting where girls with similar goals can prepare for their lives as adult Mormons.

Some of the activities that help girls in this age group relate to their faith in a positive way include acts of service to neighbors or those less fortunate, crafts and baking projects that teach domestic skills, games and skits and outdoor activities. Each LDS Young Women session is an opportunity to get closer to each other and their faith. At the same time, these girls are being groomed for their roles as wives, mothers and teachers of the Word. They are learning Scripture and becoming more confident in their convictions.

This is one of the goals of LDS Young Women programs. They address the issues important to girls at this age, when they are exposed to values that are sometimes contrary to Church teaching. By giving girls a positive and supportive environment in which to express their ideas, Young Women seeks to mold these young people into good role models and effective witnesses of their faith.
