Assessment TestingWritten by James Lyons Assessment testing enables employers to reasonably determine how well an applicant would do in a particular job role. That sure beats hiring a person and finding out later he or she was not right for the job. This type of testing is catching on because of the potential money it can save employers. Companies are doing everything they possibly can to eliminate risk from the hiring process. Many of these assessment tests can be performed online before or after candidates fill out the online job applications. When the candidate completes the assessment test, the results are either sent directly to the employer or to the employer's HR outsourcing partner. As you can well imagine, assessment testing can save organizations a great deal of time and money. What Assessment Testing EntailsI am not an expert in designing job assessment tests, but I have some experience with them both as an applicant and as an HR consultant. The goal of assessment testing is to accurately match candidates to jobs. These tests often include hypothetical scenarios, questions about their personalities, and so on. Each test is tailored to the specific position and each test is designed so that the results can be quantifiable. As a prospective employee, it's important to give honest answers. These tests are carefully designed by experts and these experts often include questions that effectively root out the disingenuous. Regardless, you do not want to be in a position that does not match your skill set. Poorly matched employees are typically fired or quit within the first six months, a blemish for both the employer and the employee.
