Online Employment ScreeningWritten by Jill Morrison Online employment screening allows you to verify the identity and/or background of an applicant during the hiring process. Many companies are taking the time to perform identity and background checks so they can avoid hiring detrimental employees. These checks will help to determine whether or not applicants are telling the truth about their identities, character, and previous experiences. Employment screening may also determine whether or not they have been convicted of any crimes, which can be helpful information for hiring. Choices for Online Employment ScreeningThere are three main types of employment screening choices that can be found online. The first and most frequently utilized choice is an identity check. An identity check will basically screen for the name, address, home phone number, date of birth, average home price, and average income for an individual applicant. An identity check uses public records to provide this basic information. These checks are very easy to acquire and can be used on all employment applicants if desired. A background check is another option for employment screening. A background check is a little more difficult to acquire because it provides more detailed information than an identity check. It may offer information such as legal judgments, licenses, tax liens, address histories, and property information about an individual. Sometimes a background check will also offer information about someone's relatives, neighbors, or previous roommates as well. High risk companies that need trustworthy employees are most likely to use a background check before hiring an employee. A criminal check is the third option for online applicant screening. A criminal check will basically reveal whether or not an applicant has committed any crimes in their past that are not revealed on their application. Crimes may include county offenses, sex offenses, felonies, or misdemeanors. Some companies feel that a criminal check is very important in the hiring process. These businesses are very particular about their choices in employees and would definitely not allow known criminals to work for them. You can choose whether or not you feel a criminal check is necessary for hiring new employees.
