New Mexico birth records are available through the New Mexico Department of Health. The general rule is that birth records from any state are available at that state's Department of Health. These state agencies will always have a toll-free information line you can call to get instructions for obtaining a copy of your birth certificate. They also have websites that fulfill the same function.

Who has a New Mexico birth record? Anyone born in the state of New Mexico has a New Mexico-issued birth certificate. Plus, a record of their birth data will be archived in the vital records office of the county or parish in which that person was born.

Why Is My New Mexico Birth Record Important?

Your New Mexico birth record will prove to be an important tool as you go through life. Everything from getting a driver's license, to replacing a lost driver's license, to getting a U.S. passport for travel abroad, to cross-border travel to Mexico or Canada, is dependent on your ability to present a certified copy of your birth certificate to the proper authorities.

The flip side is not a pleasant one. Without your copy of birth certificate, your life can become an unbelievable hassle - suddenly and, worst of all, completely unnecessarily. If you don't happen to have a copy of your New Mexico birth certificate on hand, why not start taking the steps to obtain it? You'll be really glad you did.
