State Vital Records

State vital records offices are located in each county, parish, or borough of the United States. These offices contain the birth records of every person born in these respective counties and parishes. They contain, readily available, birth records dating all the way back to the beginning of the 20th century.

Typically, birth records dated before the 1910's are archived and entered into the state historical record. If needed, these records can be located and documentation provided. However, birth records registrars typically require more time to fulfill these requests.

More about State Vital Records

Every person should have readily on hand a certified copy of birth certificate. If you don't know where yours is, then it's best to order another from the state vital records office. You can do this either by applying to the office directly or by using an online birth certificate search service.

Many people prefer the online method because it's quick, easy, and convenient to do from home. Reputable services have birth certificate researchers on hand who deal with the state vital records office themselves. Your only job is to complete the application accurately and to await arrival of your certified birth record.
