Utah Birth Record
Written by Rachel Arieff
Utah birth records are an important identifying document for any person born in the state of Utah. If you want to get your driver's license, replace a lost license, or apply for a U.S. passport, presentation of your birth certificate will be required. Without this important identifying document, the process cannot be successfully completed.
There is no reason not to have a copy of your Utah birth record in your possession, but perhaps this is the situation with you. Maybe your parents are holding onto it for you. That's perfectly fine and probably a good idea for your parents to have a copy of your birth certificate for safekeeping, but you still should have your own copy.
Why Your Utah Birth Records Are So Important to Have in Your Possession
You should always have a copy of your Utah birth record on hand because you never know when you may be experience an emergency situation where you'll need to use it. Need an example? Here's one: applying for your driver's license - or losing your proof of driver's license. When you go down to the DMV for your driver's license or its replacement, one of the identifying documents they will insist on is your certified copy of birth certificate.
If you don't have it, you've just wasted your time and will not be able to complete this process until you can present your birth certificate. This is a necessary rule, because if no one had to prove they were who they said they were, imagine what a mess our society would be in! The long and short of it is, save yourself the hassle and get a copy of your Utah birth certificate as soon as you can. You'll be happy later that you did.
