Motion Sensor

An Important Part of A Security System

A motion sensor or detector is a popular first step when designing a home security system. You can install motion detectors yourself for as little as $50.00 per room, while motion detectors that include barking sounds and other specialized alarms can cost as little as an additional $50.00. In other words, a motion sensor is a very affordable piece of the home safety puzzle.

There are different kinds of motion detectors for different budgets and purposes. Basic photo-sensor models emit a light beam which triggers the alarm whenever anyone interrupts the beam. The are most useful in doors and entranceways.

The Ultimate Motion Sensor System

More sophisticated (and expensive) passive infrared detectors don't emit any energy on their own, but detect infrared energy emitted in the environment. Because passive infrared detectors are designed to be triggered by human body heat, they are less likely to create false alarms when a pet crosses a floor. PIR detectors can become a powerful security tool, especially in combination with surveillance cameras.

Motion detectors that are installed around the outside of your house also can help deter burglars from trying to enter your home. When motion is detected around the perimeter of your home, bright lights will come on that will illuminate the surrounding areas. This alone is a great deterrent, because it can be seen by your neighbors, and any smart thief would run like the wind to escape getting caught.
