Security MonitorsWritten by James Lyons Security monitors are not to be confused with big screen televisions. While you can transmit video images from multiple cameras to your big screen television, the big screen television is not a security monitor. I personally feel like the television should be left alone when it comes to video surveillance. In my home, the television is one of the many pieces of equipment in the home used for relaxation. Do you need a security monitor? Again, for many surveillance systems it's not necessary to purchase a security monitor. The cameras can be plugged into your computer or your television. With the use of a transmitter and receiver, wireless cameras can send video footage to your computer or television without having to plug the camera directly into those devices. Again, your money is best spent elsewhere. Security Monitors for YouIf you get a surveillance system that comes with a monitor, make sure that monitor has a full metal frame and not a cheap plastic one. These plastic security monitors are not worth the money. The quality of the image they produce is low and the weak framing leaves them vulnerable to damage. Finally, if you plan on installing a video surveillance system in your home, office, or daycare, look into quads. No, I'm not talking about your thigh muscles. Quads split your security monitors into four sections, enabling you to view four cameras at the same time. Most monitors do not come with built in quads, so ask your potential provider about buying a quad unit. They are well worth it.
