Workplace Violence

Workplace violence is something we all hope will never happen. Unfortunately, it's a reality of today's business world, and the best way to deal with it is to be prepared. There's nothing worse than having violence erupt at your place of business when you didn't expect it and don't know how to defuse.

What Should You Do About Workplace Violence?
The best defense against workplace violence is knowledge and preparation. First of all, know your employees well. Know who might be prone to violence, and if possible do background checks on any new employees to make sure they've never had problems in the past.

Of course, the best way to avoid workplace violence is to keep employees happy. If, for some reason, you've got a disgruntled employee on your hands, you need to know how to deal with them if something happens. Having a good security system set up in the workplace can go a long way to ensuring a calm, safe working environment.

Always keep an ear to the ground when dealing with employees. If one employee has a problem with another, make sure a manager works it out. If that's not possible, keep the employees apart or fire one of them. Maintaining the status quo isn't always worth the risk of violence breaking out.
