Locksmithing

Locksmithing is Non-Destructive Entry
Locks give us a feeling of security. True, locks do make entry more difficult, but the basis for locksmithing is that every make of lock has a defect. To understand the kinds of locks and how they work, is the beginning of knowledge about how to exploit their weaknesses.
Lock picking 101 starts with vocabulary. A key is inserted into the keyway of the plug. The plug is a cylinder that can rotate when the correct key is inserted. The knobs sticking out from the sides of the keyway are wards. The wards determine the key that will open the lock.
Develop Your Senses
The first pin touched by the key is pin one, and the other pins are numbered pin two, and so on, toward the back of the lock. To oversimplify the process, the correct key will lift each pin pair. When all the pins are in the proper position, the plug will rotate and the lock will open.
Those who are good at locksmithing develop their sense of touch so they are sensitive to the slightest movement of the pins. Their hearing is acute, so they can pick up the proper clicks of the pins. They develop their ability to mentally visualize the workings of their lock pick tools. To be this sensitive and aware, locksmithing requires concentration from those who want to become professionals.
