Army Loan Repayment ProgramsWritten by Seth Cotterell Army loan repayment programs are available to help graduating college students pay off their educational debt. With the cost of college sky rocketing and no signs of a change in that trend, many students preparing for graduation are worried about repaying their college loans. This concern is justified and very understandable. If this is you, don't panic, there are alternative methods to help you pay off your college debt. Army Loan Repayment Programs Helping StudentsArmy loan repayment programs are designed to help students meet the potentially crippling financial burden they may have accumulated in college. By joining the Army after college, students can have their college expense paid for in exchange for a term of service in the armed forces. A percentage of your college debt will be paid each year of active duty in the army. For full time Army employees, educational loans are generally paid off in three years of active duty. Army Reserve personnel also qualify for these army loan repayment programs, though at a slower rate. Reserve workers generally must serve for about six years in order to have their loans fully paid off. It is also important to make sure that your loan status is not in default, as this can alter eligibility for this program. Under the G.I. Bill, full time soldiers are allowed up to 65,000 dollars toward student loan repayment. Reserve soldiers, on the other hand, qualify for only up to 20,000 dollars in educational expenses. Most types of federal student loans can be paid under this program.
