Joining the United States Coast Guard can be one of the most rewarding experiences a young person will ever have, both personally and financially. They will pick up knowledge and a skill set that will serve them throughout their lives, as well as earning a lifetime of Coast Guard aid benefits that are not available to the average civilian. These benefits include everything from debt management services, to medical assistance provisions designed to cover above and beyond what TRICARE encompasses.

Who Gives Coast Guard Aid?

There are a number of organizations that deal with Coast Guard aid programs, striving to take care of all current and former members of the USCG. These organizations provide assistance to cover the wide variety of needs that arise across the spectrum of the guard. These needs include things like durable medical equipment, emergency travel funds, and child adoption assistance.

In addition to these private military assistance organizations, the Pentagon itself has set up a number of Coast Guard aid programs that are designed to not only entice new members, but also take care of the old. For example, the Montgomery GI Bill has been a boon to recruiting for over half a century, allowing hundreds of thousands of vets to attend college. There are of course lots of other government programs designed to help veterans, such as retirement benefits, TRICARE health insurance, and VA mortgage programs.

These programs are designed to reward our bravest men and women, and many are relatively easy to qualify for. So, contact your military banking group or local VA and find out what funds might be available to you.
