Moody AfbWritten by Sarah Provost Moody Air Force Base in Georgia is the home of the 347th Rescue Wing, the Air Force's only active-duty combat search and rescue wing. The 347th Rescue Wing trains for and executes worldwide search and rescue operations, in peacetime as well as in combat. Fittingly, the image on their patch is of a knight on a white horse. The 820th Security Forces Group is one of the most important of the many tenant organizations at Moody AFB. Their mission is focused on providing highly trained and extremely mobile security forces, which provide protection for U.S. forces anywhere in the world. These troops work in support of the Air Force Global Engagement mission. Moody Air Force Base has had many accolades in recent years. The base won the Commander-in-Chief's Installation Excellence Award for 1991, and the 1994 Verne Orr Award, which is won by the unit that most effectively uses human resources to accomplish its mission. In June 1997, the wing was awarded its eighth Air Force Outstanding Unit Award. Clearly, the white knights at Moody are doing it right.
