Tinker Air Force Base is home to the Oklahoma City Air Logistics Center. The facility supplies installation, maintenance, and support for 31 weapons systems, 10 commands, 93 Air Force bases and 46 foreign countries. They are the largest single-site employer in Oklahoma, employing more than 24,000 military and civilian personnel.

The primary mission of Tinker Air Force Base is maintenance on aircraft, including Air Force One. They also provide maintenance on engines, components and accessories. To give you some idea of the scope of operations, they have primary responsibility for almost 22,000 aircraft engines alone, with a total value of more than 31 billion dollars.

Care for the Environment Ranks High at Tinker AFB

The Environmental Management Directorate provides expertise, technical support, and consultation on environmental concerns for all base activities. Their list of accomplishments is truly impressive. Just as one example, they took on the problem of vapor degreasers used in the cleaning of aircraft parts. By replacing vapor degreasers with pressure spray washers, they were able to eliminate 108,130 pounds of hazardous waste and 130,596 pounds of air emissions each year.

The Environmental Management Directorate has also created an Integrated Environmental Team. They have joined forces with the 72nd Medical Group's Bioenvironmental Engineering Division and the Base Safety Office to provide an even more comprehensive environmental program. This concern for the environment is only one of many reasons why Tinker was named the Best Air Force Base in the United States in 2001.
