Us Air Force BasesWritten by Sarah Provost US Air Force Bases stretch from sea to shining sea. That is, they can be found from Hanson Air Force Base in Bedford, Massachusetts to McChord Air Force Base in Tacoma, Washington, or from MacDill AFB in Tampa Bay, Florida to Los Angeles AFB in El Segundo, California. Eilson Air Force Base is at the North Pole, and Hickam is in Honolulu. They're all over the desert states--Arizona, New Mexico, and Texas. They cover the plains states in the Midwest. They can be found all over the globe, too, from Khost Air Base in Afghanistan to Khanabad Air Base in Uzbekistan. In short, wherever there are Americans to be found, or wherever Americans are needed, there is a US Air Force Base. Missions of the US Air ForceThe missions of the Air Force are widely varied, too. There are combat missions, of course, and will be until the world is at peace. Stealth bombers are only the beginning--there are also troop carriers, refueling tankers, and all kinds of support operations, from training to maintenance to communications to clerical to medical. Combat isn't the only mission of the Air Force, however. Air Force pilots run mercy missions, delivering food, clothing, medical personnel and equipment to people in crisis. They airlift civilians out of dangerous places. They deliver heavy equipment to Third World countries, so that they can build roads and hospitals. The Air Force is also the primary nexus of our aerospace program. It was the Air Force that put Enos the chimp into space, and then sent men to the moon. It seems a pretty safe bet that when the first people walk on Mars, the US Air Force will be there.
