Veteran home improvement loans are available for former members of the U.S. armed services. These loans can be used for a variety of reasons including home repairs and alterations. Veteran home improvement loans are also offered for construction of new homes, as well as additions to existing homes and other renovation projects.
Veteran Loans Improving Homes and Lives
The amount of money veterans are eligible to borrow varies a little depending on different factors such as state of residence and equity in your home, but anywhere from about five to 25 thousand dollars can be expected. Current home owners can do whatever they like with the money to make a house more like your home.
Veteran home improvement loans have variable interest rates depending on your state of residence. I took a random sampling of five states and found an average interest rate of approximately five percent. I also ran through the application process of a few lenders and found an application time of anywhere from 15 to 30 minutes. Overall, the process was quite easy, and I experienced very few problems.
Home purchase and home improvement loans often involve an appraisal of the property's value. For VA loans, the appraisal must be performed by a VA approved appraiser, and most of the time the lender will handle this step in the application process. Repayment schedules vary, and you'll have to consult your lender for the exact timeframe.
