Air Cargo SecurityWritten by Robert Mac Air cargo security is just as important as securing rail and ship cargo, and has its own set of obstacles. For instance, transporting parcels via air exposes them to colder temperatures and higher air pressures than other shipping methods, possibly affecting certain types of cargo. There are air cargo security tools, however, that monitor the temperature and other conditions of your goods. Good Air Cargo Security Checks TemperatureWhile theft is one of the largest causes of lost profits for the shipping industry, improper transit practices also result in undeliverable goods. For example, produce and other food products need to be kept within a specific temperature range, but proving that certain cargo was shipped accordingly had been difficult. You can now use a one-time thermal label that gives a visual indication when cargo was shipped below a preset temperature. Similarly, there are shock detecting seals that give a visual indicator when the cargo they are attached to has been mishandled and shaken to a predetermined degree. These security measures put the onus on carriers to maintain proper shipping conditions for their customers' products. They also let shipment receivers easily and quickly check if their cargo has been sent according to the agreed-upon terms. There are also tamper evident labels that add another layer to air cargo security. These labels reveal hidden messages when the boxes sealed with them are opened and then resealed. The overall effect of these measures is to deter theft and other crimes while the supply chain is airborne.
