Debit Cards

Debit cards have become the preferred payment option for people of all economic backgrounds. These plastic cards draw directly from your checking account to pay for your products and services. I use this card not only for purchasing everyday items, but also for paying my bills online and over the phone. You can use these cards the same way you would use credit cards but without accruing finance charges.

In the early days of debit cards people used them primarily for ATM transactions. These days you can use these cards for so many more transactions. It is important with these cards to make sure you keep accurate records of your financial transactions. I usually try to review my transactions online at least once a day. Many of the top banks allow their customers to view their account histories online.

Protecting Your Transactions with Debit Cards

Because the funds for transactions from debit cards often come from checking accounts, many people back up their checking accounts with credit cards. If you lose track of your transactions and you spend more money than you have in your checking account these credit cards will cover the excessive expenditures. If you don't have a backup plan for your checking account transactions you may face overdraft fees.

Thanks to modern technology we seem to be moving closer and closer to a paperless society. In recent years we may conduct all of our financial transactions using plastic cards. While we wait for the technology that makes this possible, it's good to know that your credit history and financial information is safe thanks to modern encryption devices available today.
