Digital Photo IdsWritten by Michael Federico Digital photo IDs are used in offices, schools, and private clubs. Even the government has switched to digital photo IDs for licenses and other forms of identification. The use of digital technology makes the process of producing IDs much faster. It also allows printing techniques to be used that make IDs harder to counterfeit. The use of digital photos has also opened up an entirely new way of renewing IDs. Several states in the U.S. will actually let a person renew his license over the Internet. The digital photo that was taken originally can be stored in the computer, so it is not necessary for another picture to be taken. Many private organizations have adopted this method. People are usually willing to pay a small fee for the convenience of online renewal, so having digital IDs can actually help organizations make a few extra dollars in the long run. Storing Information on Digital Photo IDsMore and more, IDs are being used for automatic access to buildings or certain sections of an office. This means that the ID does not have to be shown to a person, it can simply interact with an electronic reader. In order for this to work, IDs must be outfitted with at least a barcode or magnetic strip. There are digital photo IDs that can actually store information about the cardholder on them. When these cards are used, the ID system in the building will know who is entering. It can also track how long a specific person is inside. This trait has led many offices to use digital IDs as time cards for their employees.
