That said, a person needs to be prepared. All of us could use some basic training, but not all of us have the necessary time to dedicate to such training.

Learning at Home

One alternative a person could choose is an emergency preparedness video. In the privacy of your own home you can learn important lessons about preparation. Because you own the video you'll be able to share the information with your family and go over it as often as you need.

There are videos you can watch that will teach you some basic first aid survival skills. They are very useful, containing demonstrations on many life saving techniques. A word of caution: While courses on video are great, and in an emergency they will help, some techniques are better learned in person where an expert can correct any wrong ideas you may have on how to perform a function.

Once you have learned a few lessons the best thing you could do for yourself is put what you have learned in practice. That means getting and maintaining an up to date survival kit. It also means preparing an exit strategy for your home or work place and running a few practice drills.
