Hospital Emergency Preparedness

If you've watched the news lately you know the world has been hit repeatedly by natural and human devastation. The medical response teams of many nations have been doing their best, but the truth is, they are stretched to their limits. There are things you can do to help, and when you do, you'll be helping your fellow man, as well as yourself.

What Can I Do?

First, you can take some basic first aid and emergency courses--even some that can be taken at home by video. In an emergency the hospitals will do what they can do, but often they are understaffed and over-worked with difficulty. Besides, often it is in the first few minutes after a disaster when actions can spell the difference between life and death.

Secondly, there are places to which you can contribute money or other resources, such as a used car, to pay for medical supplies. Every day we hear about the rich celebrity donating a large sum of money, and that's great. Remember though that the bulk of the difference is made by people like you and me, doing what they can--as little as it may be.

Finally, you can volunteer at many organizations to help directly. As the world goes crazy many of us feel helpless, but guess what, you aren't helpless. Your talents and your heart are all that are needed at places like the Red Cross. You can make a difference.
