Id Verification DevicesWritten by Michael Federico ID verification devices are becoming more complex as new advances in technology are made. In the past, companies, government institutions, schools, and other organizations would simply issue photo IDs to employees, students, and members. A person had to show his badge to enter a certain area, but beyond that, there weren't many security measures put in place. Basic photo IDs can be duplicated more easily than ID cards with security features. The government and other groups recognized this problem and began to create IDs that had features like holographic overlays and ultra violet printing that made things more difficult for would-be forgers. Today, many companies have employee ID cards that make use of new printing techniques including micro printing and image ghosting. They use specialty software and other ID verification devices to create and later check the validity of these IDs. The Next Generation of ID Verification DevicesIt is strange when things that once only appeared in science fiction and spy movies make their way into the real world. Retinal scanners, palm and finger print verifiers, and voice recognition machines are commonplace in many high security offices. These devices are used for areas that have extremely limited access. Most employees will never come into contact with them, but there are some who will deal with one if not all of these security elements on a daily basis. There are a number of options for those who cannot afford or do not require such heavy security. ID cards and the verification devices that read them are far more sophisticated than they were years ago. Smart cards have memory capabilities, and can store an employee's access codes and personal information. This memory can be updated routinely to reflect the employee's security status with the company. Printing methods continue to get better, and ID readers are becoming far more accurate.
