Security Id CardsWritten by Michael Federico Security ID cards regulate who can enter a building and who has access to certain areas of that building. A number of businesses rely on security cards to ensure the safety of sensitive materials. Although the majority of companies do not have to worry about corporate espionage, most companies, unfortunately, do have to worry about employee theft. Certain government and private buildings use ID cards as a tool in their overall security systems. Along with carrying an encoded badge, an employee might have to provide a fingerprint, or be subjected to a voice verifier or retinal scan. Along with granting and denying access, these measures make it possible for security personnel to monitor who is in specific sections of a facility at all times. Aspects of Security ID CardsWhen producing a card that enhances security, it is necessary to maintain the security of the card itself. There are a number of ways to protect a photo ID card and the information stored on it from duplication. Many of these techniques can be accomplished with a specialized, in-office security ID system. Using holographic overlays is one of the best ways to produce secure ID cards. However, it is also one of the most expensive ways, usually costing a company thousands of dollars. Ultra violet printing and micro printing are two relatively inexpensive methods that can be used for security IDs. When shown under a UV light, sections of an ID that has UV printing on it will appear to glow. Those portions of print are invisible to the naked eye and difficult to replicate. Micro printing appears to be a solid line on an ID. However, when viewed under a magnifying tool, distinct type appears. Like UV printing, micro printing adds a level of security to cards that is hard to counterfeit.
