Visitor Management Systems

Visitor management systems can provide a building, campus, or complex with a major security boost. It is odd that many organizations take the time to develop complex employee, member, or student ID systems, but do not bother with visitor management. This means that security personnel can effectively track the arrivals of guests, even in a facility with several entrances and exits.

It is true that employee and member theft is a problem in many companies and clubs. However, visitors can pose at least as great a threat to security as an insider. Simply establishing a visitor management system can greatly increase security, as the mere existence of such a program can act as a deterrent.

How Does a Visitor Management System Work?

Visitor management systems can function in the same way as employee management systems. Instead of giving a standard visitor pass, a card with a barcode can be used. Before handing over the pass to the visitor, the card can be swiped through a reader. This will instantly establish the time that a visitor entered the building.

Once inside, the card will not grant access or open doors. If desired, exit times can be tracked as well with barcodes. This means that the amount of time that a visitor has been on the premises can be tracked. If for some reason time becomes an issue, the situation can be looked into. In an emergency situation, all guests can be accounted for to ensure their safety.
