As the name suggests, the P-40 Warhawk was an airplane used in combat during World War II. In fact, it was the third most used fighter plane in the line of American aircraft used in the war effort. All told, about 15,000 of these planes rolled off the assembly lines and into the air over the Pacific.

There are also many websites that bring together men who served in World War II. They have special sections for people who flew and provided maintenance for the Warhawks. These sites offer unique stories of going into battle, as well as some amazing stories of survival.
