Retirement Gift Ideas

The best way to find the perfect gift for someone who is retiring is to take into consideration the work they did and what they will be doing in the future. If the retiree was in the business world and plans to stay actively involved in business matters whether personal or public, engraved desk accessories make a great gift.

These days, however, some people are retiring earlier than 65 in favor of a life of leisure. If the retiree will be leaving work to pursue an interesting hobby or a sporting passion, a gift that will come in handy in their new life will be most appreciated. Retirement gifts should not only reflect the past, they should incorporate the future. The worst gift is one that someone will throw into a drawer and never look at again.

Traditional Retirement Gifts

Although there are many appropriate gifts for a retiree, it's good to know about the traditional gifts. Plaques are often given by companies to retirees commemorating their long years of service. These can be simple plaques with an engraved message or they can be customized to fit the retiree's profession. Another good idea is to buy and engrave a photo plaque and put a group picture of the retiree and his/her co-workers.

Of course, an engraved clock is also a traditional retirement gift. These can be personalized with the recipient's name, company name and the years of service. Retirement clocks are an attractive gift, but as they are so common, it is a good idea to talk to fellow co-workers to make sure the gift is not being duplicated.
