Teachers and schools often print certificates to recognize the achievements of their students. These certificates can be made for large achievements such as graduation; or they can be made for small achievements such as the highest grade on a test. The certificates themselves are extremely inexpensive and can be found at any office supply store or online. However, the value to a child and his/her education is priceless.

Types of Student Recognition Awards

Perhaps the most coveted award a student can achieve is a trophy. Trophies come in all sizes and price ranges. For the larger competitions trophies can carry large price tags of hundreds of dollars. These are typically reserved for state or national competitions. For smaller awards, however, trophies can be bought for as little as $10. For the most part, trophies can be designed to be appropriate for any competition. The figurine, the color and the engraving are all up to the buyer.

Plaques are also a popular type of student recognition award. They are used in both athletics and academics. In athletics, students usually receive photo plaques with team pictures either for a great season or simply for participation. In academics, a formal plaque to recognize excellence in a particular subject or grade is appropriate.

Students have also become accustomed to receiving award ribbons. Simple and inexpensive, award ribbons are an easy way to acknowledge achievement. They can be custom printed to suit any need. Parents also love to frame award ribbons or preserve them in a scrapbook. Finding a way to recognize the efforts of children is important, but it doesn't require exorbitant funds to do so.
