Today, stronger and lighter weight materials that actually cost less than their older counterparts make the best tents fairly easy to transport either by car or in a pack. Choosing a tent is a very personal matter, but there are several features you should look for before you make your choice. Some of these include, strong, collapsible aluminum poles; inside storage pockets, lightweight nylon or polyester, waterproof one-piece flooring, factory sealed seams, steep walls, and a waterproof rainfly.

Zipper windows are great when the weather turns bad. It's also really important to have the capability of tying down the tent when dealing with strong winds. You will have to choose between grades of tents. Some are designed only for summer use, while other bargain tents you will find online can be used year round, even in snow.

Metal zippers should be avoided. Buying a tent that is too small is usually a mistake and should also be avoided. Make sure you buy enough tent for the number of campers, and consider how much interior room you really need. Some of the newer tent models have low, long footprints. This can result in a perception that the tent is actually smaller than it really is.
