Rope Chains

When shopping for a necklace or bracelet, there are several different types of chains to choose from. The majority of these chains have been individually named for the item that served as the inspiration for the design. For instance, the curb chain is named for a similarly designed item that is used to curb or guide the steps of a horse.

A category of jewelry known as rope chains was also named for their semblance to their real world counterpart. In contrast to other kinds of chains, which typically consist of circular chains that have been joined together, these beautiful links resemble long pieces of woven or knotted rope. In fact, the most popular design consists of two continuous pieces of metal that have been woven and then soldered together.

However, some rope chains are made up of three or four rows of metal braided together. These are very versatile pieces of jewelry that look good on both men and women. They are available in a variety of styles and look wonderful in gold, silver, platinum or any combination of the three.

Stand-alone Jewelry: Rope Chains

The classic woven design of rope chains makes them suitable as stand-alone pieces of jewelry. However, they look equally attractive when they have been enhanced with a charm such as a heart or a cross. Still others like to embellish their chains with beads or jewels--the choice really is up to the wearer.
