Pink Peony

The pink peony is a traditional favorite among garden or herbaceous peonies. In cut flower arrangements, it has few equals for its lovely blooms and varied fragrances. The pink varieties have definitely been a commercial success as part of the revived interest in the use of old-fashioned peonies in modern floral arrangements. They are selected not just for weddings, but for anniversaries, birthdays, welcoming new babies, and other occasions when congratulations are in order.

The pink peony clan has many members. Many are the double "bombs" like the very fragrant, very large flowers of Mons Jules Eli and the richly fragrant Sarah Bernhardt that some have said accounts for nearly half of peony sales. Single-flowered pink peonies include Seashell, Bowl of Beauty, and Avant Garde.

Chinese herbaceous peonies have many pink peony varieties, although their names might not be as recognizable. For cut flowers, the Chen Xi, Zhong Sheng Fen, and Shao Nu Zhuang are elegant, vigorous and fragrant. New varieties are being developed for inclusion in the export trade as increasing numbers of businessmen visit the flower nurseries and festivals in China each year.

A Tree Peony Can Also be a Pink Peony

Chinese Tree Peonies display flowers in a wide range of pinks, from the palest through medium pinks to almost red. Bing Zhao Lan Yu, Dan Feng, and Jui Zui Yang Fei are a few examples. Among Japanese Tree Peonies, the Seidai, Shintoen, and the very rare Otomenomai bear extremely beautiful and colorful pink blossoms.
