Office White Noise

Not all noises are created equal. Office white noise is a beneficial and positive presence in the workplace. How can noise be useful in the workplace you ask? It's quite simple really. White noise is the anti-noise. It combats intrusive and distracting sounds around you so that you can focus your time and energy on the work at hand. Office white noise cuts down on obnoxious sounds, it does not add to them.

The Many Benefits Of Office White Noise

Anyone who's ever worked in even a mildly noisy office can understand how distracting office sounds can be and how much they can impact your productivity. There are always phones ringing, people talking, doors closing, traffic, and office loud mouths certainly don't help out. If you've worked in a cubicle farm it's even worse. So how do you combat this short of going postal or having a break down on an especially hectic day?

You've got to combat noise with noise. White noise is an unstructured sound that interferes with other sound waves. It is often called sound masking noise. Incoming sound waves get caught up in the white noise and if they make it through are extremely diminished. You can probably still hear the person in the next cubicle (though at a considerably diminished volume) but sounds across the room or down the hall are not going to make it into your personal space.

You can research the scientific studies that have proven this to reduce stress, increase productivity and satisfaction, or you can just take it from me. I've personally used this technology and it works great. I used to work in an office with an incredibly noisy neighbor, and I seriously dreaded going to work everyday. Until I convinced my boss to let me have an office white noise machine, then my job performance skyrocketed and I didn't feel like pulling my hair out anymore.
