Six Sigma is a quality management system used by manufacturing companies, service organizations, and even city governments. The goal with Six Sigma is to have any failures in quality happen beyond the sixth sigma of probability. A sigma equals a step of one standard deviation. If processes with tolerances of at least six sigmas are implemented, it is assumed that there will be less than 3.4 defects per one million attempts.
