Consumer Packaging Design

What is the most important part of consumer packaging design? An often ignored, but very important aspect of packaging design is the need to convey a message that will advance the product-consumer relationship. But before that can happen, the consumer needs to notice the product.

Consumer Packaging Design and Strategy

Pinwheel packaging, or display packaging, is one strategy. This way, each angle of the display shows the desired side (or length) of the box. This creates eye-catching appeal while exposing the company logo to the maximum degree.

However, pinwheel layouts take some serious calculations and design. This is where packaging design software comes into play. With the right program, you simply enter the package dimensions and the layout is created for you, layer by layer.

One thing you will want to look for in a packaging design program is the ability to export graphics. It doesn't do a whole lot of good to have access to a brilliant layout if your computer is far away from your display and packaging location. Also, look for programs that offer a great degree of flexibility and customization. Great software is the key to efficient packaging and merchandising, but software that has limited functionality is little more than an expensive toy.
