PC virus scan is an extremely important part of everyday computer maintenance and one that should not be overlooked. As the Internet has grown so has the number of hackers that have created viruses meant to alter or destroy computers. There have been a number of highly publicized virus attacks in the past couple of years, and you should think about protecting your home computer from similar harm by using PC virus scan software.

There are some viruses that are not that harmful to your computer but are still very annoying. A good example would be a virus that sends a file to everyone in your email contact list. However, there are much more dangerous viruses that can be received through email or over the Internet that can damage your hard drive. Once these viruses have been activated it is extremely difficult to reverse the effects.

At any one point your PC may have multiple viruses on the hard drive that are currently inactive and causing no harm. But if the right combination of files is opened or a change is made the viruses may open and become extremely dangerous. This is why it is crucial for you to perform a PC virus scan on a regular basis.

Scheduling a PC Virus Scan

A wonderful feature of virus software is that it can be scheduled to run weekly, daily or even hourly in some cases. You should schedule your scans depending on your computer use and how frequently you access the Internet. A scan can even be run while you are away from the computer or outside your home. Once the scan has completed you can return to your computer and see potential viruses that were removed or cleaned.
