If you need to check for spyware on your computer, you have quite a few options. These options range from free do-it-yourself methods to more expensive (but easier) software or support-based methods. Regardless of your level of expertise, you should be able to check for spyware pretty quickly and easily.

How to Check for Spyware on Your Computer

For experience PC-users who aren't afraid of a little tinkering, the do-it-yourself method is always effective. If you suspect that your computer is infected with spyware, the best first step is to look at your Windows task manager. By pressing ALT-CONTROL-DELETE, you'll be shown a list of all the processes running on your computer.

If you're familiar with the task manager, you'll probably recognize a lot if not all of the tasks that are running. If you see one you don't recognize, do an Internet search on it to see if it is spyware. There are websites out there dedicated to listing task manager processes, and they'll help you pinpoint any suspicious programs that might be running under the radar.

Another quick and easy method for detecting spyware is to use a web-based spyware checker. This method does have its disadvantages, and it's not the most secure, but it is usually free and very easy. Using a real anti-spyware program, however, is by far the most effective way to check for spyware. And if you find anything, these programs will be able to remove it permanently from your computer.
