Athletic Wraps

Taping an athlete's ankle before a practice or competition is one of a trainer's primary duties, a mixture of art and science that carries with it its own special kind of intimacy. A trainer's athletic wraps are almost like fingerprints: no two are exactly alike, but each one can help prevent serious injury. A well-taped ankle provides stability and support and helps restrain the joint from twisting too far in any problematic direction.

Not many of us have the luxury of a trainer to provide a custom wrap before we go for a jog or weed the garden. Rather than let our joints go unprotected, though, we can purchase a neoprene athletic compression wrap for any and every joint in our bodies. These wraps conform to each body's individual contours and provide the same kind of support that a tape job does.

Wrap It Up

As we age, the cartilage that in essence lubricates our joints starts to break down, causing more and more painful bone-to-bone contact. Our ligament and tendon fibers also grow more fragile and apt to fray. Athletic wraps help to snugly reinforce our joints so we can place higher demands on them, and be confident that they will deliver.

Many of these wraps contain a liquid gel core that can be frozen to accommodate cold therapy sessions. The same brace that you wear during activity can be used to ice you down afterwards. Combining both compression and cold therapy in one package makes these wraps economical solutions to joint pain and injury as well.
