Football Gear

One of the most exciting parts of starting a new school year for many kids is getting new football gear. They can hardly wait! The biggest deal, of course, is choosing football boots. It goes without saying that the most important thing about buying football boots is that they should fit perfectly.

They should be flexible in all directions, and should be wide enough for the foot without pinching anywhere. There are two types of football boots. Those with screw in cleats, and those with molded cleats. If your child will be playing on different types of ground, screw in studs would be a good choice as they can help avoid foot discomfort, and even injury, due to playing with the wrong type of studs for the ground.

Protection Is Paramount

Once you've chosen the shoes, other items of football gear are much easier to choose and buy, particularly for kids. Whatever football gear you decide to leave off your list for now, make sure your child has a good helmet to protect him. Did you know that head injuries have decreased dramatically since football helmets have been used? Never leave your child's safety to chance.

All protective football gear should, in fact be at the top of your football gear list. Just because they're kids, doesn't mean their football is any less aggressive than the adult kind. Injuries are, in fact, more likely with younger players than with older ones, simply because they often play without the right gear, and because they haven't learned the necessary self control yet.
