Baseball Collectibles

Baseball collectibles range from small items that some Major League teams actually give away for free to cards worth $1 million. As the national pastime since the latter portion of 1800s, baseball stands alone as the premier sport for valuable sports artifacts. While other sports leagues have certain advantages over baseball, no one can deny that professional baseball paved the way for other American pro sports leagues.

The rich history of baseball cannot be separated from the cultural history of the United States. Baseball collectibles have as much value in America as artifacts left behind by former Presidents of the United States. Some people who own special items never realize how valuable their possessions may become. Baby Boomers tell heartbreaking stories of how they threw away their baseball cards when they moved out of their parents' houses only to realize years later that some of those cards were worth the equivalent of down payments for new homes.

Buying and Saving Baseball Collectibles

Some baseball collectibles sold today may appreciate in value at the same rate that Mickey Mantle rookie cards have over the years. Cards featuring The Mick that were found in packs that cost a nickel a piece are now worth up to $50,000. Many people collect sports items for that very reason.

Some sports fans have no plans to make money off the collectibles they buy. Team mugs, player jerseys, and other memorabilia have practical purposes. People who don't care about making money off sports merchandise can enjoy using the products they purchase, but they should think twice about ever throwing them away.
