Swim caps are just about unlimited in the range of colors and materials available. Perhaps the most inexpensive item of swimming equipment, you can afford to experiment here. Try several different styles, colors and materials until you find what suits you best. There's latex, polyester and lycra, and even silicone to choose from, just to name just a few.

Swim caps can be found in any style from the sleek, quietly-styled caps worn by professionals, to the extremely elaborate ones preferred by beach belles, and then everything else in between. Whatever your preferences, there's sure to be a swim cap just for you.

Latex is by far the most common material for swim caps. It is practical and comfortable, as well as inexpensive and lightweight. If you have a sensitivity to latex however, silicone may be the answer. It is light, extremely stretchable and pliable, and durable. It has the added advantage of minimizing drag in the water. Many of the professional swim caps nowadays are actually made from polyester and lycra or solid lycra. Although they're not waterproof, they keep hair in place and reduce drag.

Beauty And Practicality

Swim caps are not just a clue to the identity of a swimmer. They serve a practical purpose. For professionals, they reduce drag in the water. For most of us, they protect our hair from the ravages of chlorine, salt, sun and sand. If you're buying a swim cap for your child, you may want to consider buying one in a bright easy-to-see color for safety reasons.
