Planning a trip to the Mediterranean any time in the near future? If so, you might be able to get some helpful hints through Mediterranean travel books that give consumers the inside scoop on planning vacations along the coast of the Mediterranean Sea. Whether your travels will take you to the coast of southern France or the southern tip of Italy, you might need some ideas and opinions to help you put it all together.

First, you must decide if you are going to be staying in one location, or trekking to a couple of different countries. Some people stay in Saint Tropez, then head to the Island of Capri before taking some time in Greece. Keep in mind that most places along the Mediterranean are warm and balmy, so you can plan on getting some fun in the surf and sand. However, it is wise to pack some clothes for a rainy day, as the coastline is not exempt from inclement weather.

Frommer's travel books are infinitely helpful in showcasing some of the best restaurants and hotels along the Mediterranean. If you want to go all-out, there are certainly many luxury hotels that would be more than happy to take your business. However, if you are on a fixed budget, like most people are, there are some wonderful alternatives to five-star hotels that are still quite nice and provide exceptional service. You may not have a suite with an ocean view, but you will still have a pleasant room that is clean and comfortable.

Keep in mind that those countries that surround the Mediterranean Sea enjoy some of the very best seafood in the world. Restaurants abound that serve up some delicious gourmet treats, and you may want to eat outside under the shade of some palm trees while you sip chilled wine and eat calamari. Mediterranean living is relaxed, peaceful, and happy, so if you choose this area of the world for a little R and R, you should have no problem finding it.
