Tamarindo Hotels

Among your options for places to stay in Costa Rica's northwest are Tamarindo hotels. At the top of the Peninsula Santa Elena, Tamarindo hotels and the area's pristine white sand beaches are growing rapidly in popularity as resorts. It's easy enough to see why.

What Comes along with Tamarindo Hotels

Year round the temperatures fluctuate between 80° and 100° Fahrenheit, with the humidity higher during the wet season from May through November. That, however, is when the thunderstorms of the afternoon and evening bring the brilliant sunsets. You might scuba dive at night to see cup coral bloom, or charter a fishing boat to look for for marlin and mahi mahi.

Within easy reach of Tamarindo hotels are six or seven of Costa Rica's 23 national parks. Closest of these are Barra Honda, Las Baulas (with its giant leatherback turtles), and the Ostinonal Wildlife Refuge with its Olive Ridley turtles. Within an hour is Monteverde, also, and its sky walk on suspension bridges above the top of the rain forest. Closer aboard is an unspoiled mangrove eco-system, with crocodiles, scarlet macaws, cayman, and howler monkeys.

Surfing is deservedly popular in Costa Rica's Pacific northwest. The swells are at their peak from April through August or September, but are fairly consistent all year. Weather patterns off New Zealand help drive them. You're in Costa Rica's most accessible location, with the new international airport at Liberia only 45 minutes away, and a local airport with two airlines offering daily flights.
