Cruise South America, and you can expect most anything except the ordinary. From the Carnivale in Rio de Janeiro to the mysteries of Machu Picchu, from an awe-inspiring cruise up the Amazon to the sophistication of Buenos Aires, this vast continent offers it all. You range a little farther from home when you cruise South America, geographically and in your mind.

Many South American countries are so large that you'll find an entire spectrum from beach to jungle to desert, from cosmopolitan cities to primitive native villages. You might choose to embark from Santiago, Chile to tour the lakes and volcanoes of Patagonia. Perhaps you'd like to sail around Cape Horn and navigate the Straits of Magellan. Or maybe you just want to beach-hop down one coast and up the other!

Cruise South American with Your Own Itinerary

Perhaps you'd like to visit Devil's Island off the coast of French Guyana or navigate into the heart of Venezuela via the Orinoco River. Or maybe you want to visit the cosmopolitan cities of Rio, Lima or Santiago. You might want to climb vine-covered mountains or loll on white sand beaches. Whatever your dream of sultry South America, you can find a cruise to fulfill it.

There's more to plan than just your itinerary, though, when you cruise South America. Be sure to familiarize yourself with local customs and laws. Know what's safe to eat and drink. Make certain your inoculations are up to date and that you have a supply of any needed medications. Remember that however comfortable and familiar your cruise ship might be, when you step off it in South America, you're in another world: beautiful, magical and unforgettable.
